Hi, I need a new fuel pump for my friend's '95 Neon. I found the following item on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-F...em120208571022
I know nothing about these cars so I'm just looking for someone experienced to tell me whether or not it will work. Also, will anything else be required to install this pump, e.g. additional wires?

It "looks" rite. I stress the word LOOKS. easy job replacing it tho. Shouldnt need aditional wires.

DISCONECT THE BATTERY.
Releif fuel pressure (if any) via the shradder valve on the fuel rail.
Jack up the passenger side of car,
You will have to disconnect the fuel filler tube and a few vac lines.

depending on how much fuel is in the tank you may not have to drop it completly.
if you arent dropping it losen the drivers side tank strap, remove the pass side one wile suporting the tank with your jack so you can remove the sending unit and swap out the pump.

NOPE ^ thats the whole sending unit. pumps inside of that it comes apart. quit miss-informing.

 

The pump itself is NOT a servicable part, that pic IS what needs to be replaced, don't mis-inform. The only "servicable parts on the module are the strainer, pressure regulator and the level sensor.

 

a bunch of you guys are wrong....
according to the dealership, the pump isnt servicable, but you can buy just the pump module...
you dont have to replace the whole unit...
i replaced the pump module in my canister with a high volume walboro 255lph pump..
if your careful, you dont even have to loosen the fuel tank, just rotate the pump slightly when pulling it out and you will be able to clear everything...

what you are going to have to check out first is if the car has a metal gas tank or plastic tank since the pump assemblies are different, im not entirely sure if the module inside would be the same...

if you want to just get the pump module, then you have to completely dis assemble the pump assembly

 

x2 on what spud said.... and as far as 6sic6 said he is right as well... 6sic6 would not miss inform he is a trusted long time neon owner who knows his stuff... the pump IS serviceable how do you think the spoolboy modded canister is made... they dissassemble it and take thestock pump out and replace it with a walbro and re assemble it... I call that servicable...

 

Okay, lots of good info! So, say her dad or her dad's mechanic (NOT a dealership mechanic) handles the install and knows his stuff, it's okay to go with the pump element itself (without the rest of the module)?
Also, could I get some confirmation on whether the pump element differs between the plastic and metal fuel tanks? I imagine it would be the same?

theycan just replace the pump module if they know what they are doing.....try and find one that comes with all new gaskets and a strainer......not a "universal" kit...

Hmmm... that's double the price! Is it necessary considering this is just an old beat-up POS and not some performance car? All it has to do is work...
