SRT 4 swap...What's all the extra garbage, that people are saying is needed?
I have a98 dodge neon R/RT. I have owned my car for 5 1/2 years and was ready to do the srt swap until I started to read further into it. I have seen people posting different ways to do these swaps and most of you are making the swap sound a lot harder than it should be. What is the deal with this swap? I have the swap on standby right now, but am now second guessing doing it because everyone is making it sound like it is harder to make work than it really should be. Does some one have a lamens run down of everything that is actually needed to make this swap function properly and what parts you need? I own my own performance shop and know quite a bit about cars and this swap for some reason just sounds like a night mare. With a JDM swap into a honda all you need is the right ecu to convert, wiring harness and piggy back, axles, motor mount kit, shift linkage from a certain year and the engine and tranny. WTF makes this swap have so much more BS like having to use the srt dash cluster and ignition switch and then having to wire up the electronics differently???
maybe you should use the "search" feature

the main problem that us neon guys run into is....
the motor mounts need to compleatly fabricated and welded onto the frame of the car unlike honda swaps where you can just by the adapter... there is no adapter for this swap...extensive welding is needed.. if you plan on using the stock computer there is extensive wiring that needs to be done from tail light to headlight... you have to remember that there is a big difference in first and second gen neons... there is an easyer way to do this swap...
buy a stratus 2.4 motor rebuild it with srt internals and throw the srt turbofold on it... no need to do the welding for the mounts just a 70 dollar mount adapter... and your still able to use your neon computer....
The 2.4 swap is exensive.... does take lots of work and knowledge with i know you said you had... but hondas are easy as pie to swap the 2.4 is like a 7 on the difficulty scale... plus honda guys are so much more orginized then the neon crew they have books to show you every little step of any swap in any year honda... we have a handfull of guys that have done the compleate swap and by compleat i mean computer wiring, srt interior including dash, the srt also has the key sentry deal witch means you need the key, tumbler, sentry box, and computer from the a doner car, all those parts need matching vin numbers... otherwise no go... you can also just swap the motor and ms it and it would be alot easyer... i know im rambling but its 2am...
PS THIS SWAP IS THE BIGGEST SWAP NIGHTMARE YOU WILL EVER COME ACROSS... BUT WHAT YOU GAIN IS GREAT.
just like your sig says cheap things are hardly ever good... there is no cheap or EASY thing about this swap...
try pm'ing aerorat he has done this swap and has 100's of pics...

i would not do the swap...a fully built 2.0 can give asrt's stock- mildly modded2.4 turbo a hell of a run and a hell of a lot of other cars...the best way is to go get a 2.4 block and build that up because you would still need to replace the pistons in the srt-4 at some point for even more hp
You do not need to fabricate mounts for the srt engine.
You can use a stratus passenger'smount bracket, toomanyneons mount adapter with your regular p-side mount, the d-side's guts need flipped. You'll need to trim the fmm bracket to clear the srt oil pan. The bobble strut can fit with some minor bending to the stock hotside pipe or just make a new hotside pipe. Not too hard really.
People complain about all the wiring being a nightmarebut I really don't see why. I did hours and hours of research to make my swap happen with no problems as there was no info or how to when I did my swap. In my how to just about all the wiring/connector swaps depending on using the srt dash or 1st gen dash is there. Any problems I ran into are in there. My how to is not the only way but it does give anyone wanting to do the swap avery good start. The swap is not hard; it really isn't.. It's a 2.4 swap with some wiring.
The srt tranny is the only thing I did not cover in my how to.
