Default Car does not want to run/stay running

95-neon
The car started stalling on me when i came to a stop. Shortly after this the car would not start back up after it had died. If i let the car sit for a few hours(days sometimes) it will start back up and run for a short period of time. I changed the fuel filter thinking that maybe it was causing this. The car ran for a short time after i changed the fuel filter, but it quickly went back to acting up. I checked the error codes earlier.

I came back with:

12- Direct battery input to PCM was disconnected within the last 50 key-on cycles
37- Torque converter clutch solenoid circuit or park/neutral switch failure
43- Multiple/ single cylinder misfire
43- Multiple/ single cylinder misfire
55- end of messages

Now i've had 12-37 for the last year or so and the car has ran fine. The car is starting to miss but i don't know if that would cause the problem that i'm having.

I'm just wondering what would let it run for a lil bit then just make it go deader then dirt for a few hours. Then allow it to run for a few minutes and then go back to not running.

I just removed it, and hooked up the new one. Is there a special way you need to change them?[sm=smiley23.gif]

on a side note, there are a ton of smileys on here!!!

I just went out side and ran the car untill it started acting up. Then i ran the codes again and nothing new came up code wise.

Is there a fuel filter separate from the tank on yours??? Oh well it is a 95, does it have the steel fuel tank? The reason I asked is because most neons only have a filter inside of the tank and it is part of the fuel filter, not serviceable. I think though that in the early 95's with metal tanks they added a fuel filter. I would check the fuel pressure when it starts acting up, get a pressure gauge, then on the front of the fuel rail there is a thing that looks like a valve stem on a tire, hold it on there, then when it starts acting up observe the fuel pressure.

lol you scared me there for a sec. I thought that I might have changed it wrong. Yeah there is a fuel filter right next to the tank. I have a foolish question. Can i check the fuel pressure with a tire gage, or will i need to get a special tool?

I was reading on here and i came across something that said the 2nd gen neons had none serviceable fuel filters inside the tank. I donno if it was all of the 2nd gens or just some years.

Just wondering, are there any manuals on here?

No, you cannot use a tire gauge, lol. It is very rare as far as I know to have a neon with an external fuel filter, I am almost positve it is just 95 neons with steel tanks, so 95's with plastic tanks-05 neons all have non serviceable filters, they are designed to last the life of the pump. Not any manuals on here that I know of, however I would invest in a haynes manual if I were you, they come in handy quite a bit and have lots of illustrated info for only $20 bucks.

Eep, now i don't wanna have more money invested in the neon then what its worth.

I didn't think i'd be able to use a tire gauge, but hey i have one handy thats why i asked.

Well i'll check the fuel pressure and report back.

Thanks

Okay guys, i don't have access to a fuel psi gauge just yet. Say my psi is dropping way low after the car runs for a bit. Would this be solely responsible to a faulty fuel pump, or could there be more going wrong? More or else what is my next course of action if that is the case.

Thanks
