depends on what you want. 400 for forged and about 200 for hypereutectic. plus you can pick dish type and they will have fresh skirts. you can choose 87.5mm or you canbore it to 88.5mm. granted you can save some money by shaving your head, and i definetly understand the need [&:]but in the long run if you ever wanted to rebuild your engine for performance and really build it up, i think you would be hindering yourself. When i first heard you start talking about shaving the head i got kinda excited, cause i remember hearing stories from all my dads old hotrodder buddy's talking about that kinda stuff, but after i talked to my dad about it i think its something i would avoid. the downsides are things like not being able to use a aftermarket piston designed for high compression because you have changed the comp. ratio, then you take away your ability to use cams with a more wild L/D. Also he told me that in the process of shaving the head, a biproduct is that youretard the timing, not good considering usually for performance we tend totry to advance the timing. I completely understand and respect what uare doing, i only want to ensure that you are making a well informed decision. hope im not frustrating you!

I asked my auto tech teacher and he said with the ohc shaving the head wont change the timeing. on the older pushrod engines it would. he said that the timing ajustment design should have enough travel to have it adjusted tightly. i would like to get some forged low comp. pistons eventually bu right now i have like no money to spend. I just wanted an easy way to up my horse power at a low cost for bracket racing this summer.

spud I guess you never worked in a machine shop
.0001 is a tenth
.0005 is half a thou
.001 is a thou
.010 is ten thou
.100 is 100 thou
.125 is an 1/8 inch
ect...
I see your reasoning but if you went to a shop and told them 30 grand they would either look at funny and laugh or say so you want me to take off 3inches but any it was worth a chuckle
