Default bad day...

alright so let me start off by saying i've loved my little neon
from the first time i drove it when i was still in middle school learning stick to it becoming "my car"

but it looks like it's time has come...

so for the past few weeks i walk into my car to go to work/school and have noticed that it smells kinda like smoke
yes...the quarter of a million mile car has finally started burning oil
the other day when i was heading to school finding a parking spot i hear this kind of clicking
i found a parking spot and revved it a few times
i've heard this noise before in my friend's old Mercedes which ended up being the fan
i opened the hood to inspect...
... to my surprise (well not really) it wasn't the fan...it was coming from the engine
yes...the engine was now knocking
i got back, put some oil in it and it ran fine...but for how long? who knows...

looks like my little neon's days are finally numbered...

sorry for the rant, i had to "barf" out my thoughts somewhere

Don't be such a Drama Queen,

It was just thirsty for oil, keep up on the oil and put some of that thick syrup **** inthat helps seal your valve seals back up and forget that ever happened. A serious problem would always be there regaurdless of what you put in, especially a Rod or bearing problem, if those are to the breaking point they will go there not gonna hide once the oils in its just gonna get worse and worse till it sounds like a hammer hitting metal in a reverberated room. Most likely the knocking you heard was coming from the lifters, those are the first to make a noise once oil is low.

I ran my motor down to where there was no oil on the dip stick and it was just a little more than aquart low. No biggie.

I think if he put oil in as soon as he heard the knock he should be allright. Also theres a SOHC on ebay with 29,000 Miles for $499. I also have bought3 Neons with running SOHC Engines each for $100 and the last one for $50. One was mine and the other 2 were parts cars and I have the engines from both.

My brother used to have a V-6 Corsica that his Fiance never checked oil on, one day we were on the highway and it started knocking real bad , we pulled over asap and threw some oil in and it ran great with no noises for 2 more years till my brother junked the car.
