Shaving the head??
Hey guys, i used to be a member on this site but i forgot my password :[ . but im looking to redo my motor. How much can i shave my head without it overheating ( alot more than the neons already do) or without having to use another size belt.? Also what kind of cam can i run in my car without messing with the computer OR having a deeper sound in the exhaust than what it sounded like with the stock cam? Right now i have athe mopar after market computer from modern performace. the roughly $250 one.
Thanks for any info guys!

it was discussed really recently and I believe it was right around .030" you might want to call an automotive machine shop and they should tell you also
as far as the cams go I have no clue

well my last motor i had it shaved about 26 thousandths and it didnt over heat. I found a solution to that problem. But i was wondering if anyone has done it before or know anything about the max that it can go. My dad has a dodge daytona and he shaved that head 160 thousandths but had to switch to a smaller belt. I wouldnt go near that far, i was thinking maybe like 50 or 60 thousandths?? Any help is great guys thanks
also if you shave the head it will put a limit on how large of lift your cam can have. the more you shave the less lift. the only reason to shave a head is to raise compression. you can get hypereutechtic pistons for around 200-250 that will set you up with the compression you want. also shaving the head retards the timing (for hp we usually try to advance it).
so do you think that if i shave the head about 30 or 40 thousandths and put a crane 12 cam in it that it will be ok? Im looking to gain more lower rpm torque, since im racing it on a 1/3 mile dirt track.
is there a reason why you want to shave it, I know its one way of increasing compression but usually you shave it only if its warped to make it flat again

Well the head im takin into the shop has been worked. The head gasket blew (imagine that). So i have to take it in anyways. and i want to make my motor as fast as i can, so im shaving it even more than what it takes to resurface it to create more compression. This racing business means alot to me ( and it makes it more fun winning).
honestly I wouldent shave the head period... I know I told you its possable... I just try to give the info that you wanted but in my opinion I wouldent do it... I would find a nice set of 10.1 to 1 hypereutechticpistons like trannyinstaller said... then get the 12 grind... you would end up with more power.... but just to let you know if they end up tearing you down they will be able to see that the crane cam is in there they are clearly marked by ingraving... I'm not sure if your in a stock class or not... but I would also look into getting an ATX tb. And a mopar performance pcm and just tearing the sticker off of it... Are you alowed to port and polish??? I have a very good how-to pdf file that expains how to do it.... but try to stay away from shaving the head... get it decked becuase of the headgasket failure but just leave it at that... think of it this way if your headgasket fails again and you have taken 40 off... theres not going to be enuf material left... also if you shave it more then .030 your going to retard the timing about 2 degrees, this in itself will render the 400 dollar crane cam you just bought useless... due to you not being able to run a adjustable cam gear...
This is just my .02 cents...
