Complete overhaul
Hey guys
I have a 97 2 door neon that I might do a complete overhaul on as a project to do while in school
I was driving it a while back and the transmission was failing and then a month ago the engine shot...dunno what it was thinking maybe a thrown rod...never got it checked out
but now Im deep into consideration about dropping a dohc into it and converting to mtx...if my search keeps comming up short for the srt engine...
i have found alot of pages about putting the dohc head on the sohc but cant seem to find anything about the process of dropping a dohc engine in...
Can anybody tell me the process or have a link to a page that has it?
I has a page for the mtx conversion but I cant find it anymore...so some help on that one would be good too.
thankx

Really the DOHC swap is straight forward, as the DOHC and SOHC engines are identical. Just a complete DOHC engine and it should drop right in. You may need the upper rad hose, you may have to extend a couple of wires, but that is about it.
OK well I am almost positive That Im gonna go for it now...
Does any one know any good sources thath could run me throught the mtx conversion though...thats what Im really worried about doing...

There is a bit more to dropping a dohc into a sohc car then what jr. said... its not that bad though... your going to need the
dohc motor
dohc wiring harness
dohc manifolds (intake and exhuast)
and the bobble strut... and since you have a sohc you will not have the braket needed to bolt the bobble strut in place... however there is a solution if you can get someone that knows how to weld... http://www.neongoodies.com/Goodies/B...le_Strut.shtml
other then that its not much work...

When I said complete DOHC motor, I meant with manifolds, lol. And you do not need the DOHC harness, I have a DOHC harness in my SOHC neon, nuff said.
