Default ooohhh god now that

Hey guys me again, my 99dohc neon has a certain noise but has it since i got it ( like 2 1/2 years ) and like 3 mechanics have seen it in that time and they say the sound its normal, but many people have said to me that it sound bad so i look over the net and found videos of cars with similar noises under the FAILED CONNECTING RODS so , now im scared how do i know if the sound is relatively "NORMAL" or if a connecting rod has fail , did that happend to some of you ????. anyway im going to record the sound so you can hear it, or can you upload the sound of your cars so i can hear it , thanks

If you have a failed rod, you would also have a baseball sized hole in your oil pan and or block you mean you may have bad rod bearings, tha can make a noise. Just drive it till it dies.

If thats the case i rather not drive it till it die cause where i live its pretty expensive buying another one, you know the money here its 8.00 x USD$1, so its like expending USD earning 8 times less so, a dodge neon that you could buy for $500 there, its like buying a 2008 Audi TT here ( in cost i mean, ), believe me that i preffer to rescue my car, if its like you said just the bearing and not the connecting rod, could it be repair from below( removing the oil pan ) or have to remove the engine ...'cause i just change the head gasket like 2 months ago.........!!!!!!!

Yeah, upload the sound. Try to get from farther away from the car, then work your way towards it. Sometimes it is hard to hear when the camera is right up on the engine.

if its a rod knock change the bearings soon b4 it gets worse that will fix it. it fixed mine. also the rocker arms tap and can make you think you have a knock and you realy dont. also do engine flush on next oil change so you can free up and clean the hydralic roller rockers to help. also seafoam does wonders.

First off where are you???

second off, just to make sure... you have a 2.0 right not the import 1.8...

what you could be experiancing is what is called piston slap, and its fairly normall for a neon with some mileage on it and its ok... is it a constant noise or just in the cold????

what leads me to belive its not a rod bearing is that in your orig. post you state that the noise has been there for 2 1/2 years... if this is the case the rod bearing would have been done and gone years ago...

is it a loud noise or a faint tick???

loud noise from up top could be roller/rocker noise.
faint tick could be you just hearing the injectors...

Can you tell if its coming from up top or from the bottom???

let us know...

Well Sorry im this late to answer but ibeen busy as hell,
first of i live in Guatemala Central America, and yes is the domestic 2.0 DOHC In fact my car was from Virginia in the US, and what troubles me the most is that for the contrary the car dont make the noise in the cold
it begins to do it when it reach normal temp, and actually its kind of loud when you depress the throttle and when you release the throttle it even more loud ( Its an ATX ) but when the car its at idle its perfect there is no
noise or if its present its almost nothing. it seems its from the bottom but really just by hearing the engine i couldnt tell , how do i check if its piston slap????

sounds like a bad bearing to me... especially by getting louder under a load but not there at idle
