Default High compression over turbo?

I have someone interested in my turbo set. I was thinking of selling it and running the dohc pistons in my sohc along with a new intake mani pcm and cam. What do you think i will get hp wise out of that set up? Should i stay turbo or go all motor? The problem is I need to make the car realiable and fast. But I know that if i make the car like that i cant do it cheap. Especially with the turbo. Or maybe use the 2.4 all motor? What do you guys think? If i sell the turbo and add it to my $600 i got like $1100. I can rebuild the engine and run it high compression and fix it up nice?

high compression cars are a beast in themselfs... theres just as much to worry about with high compression as with turbo... tuning aint quite as bad.... if you use the dohc pistons you wont have to worry about higher oct. gas but if you get into the 10.1 or 12.5 to 1 area you are going to have to straight up run 100oct. or your motor go bye bye... as for the cam.... go big or go home... for a high compression build the cam is the single thing that will make your car or brake it... stage 3 crowers i belive there 272/272 are pretty cheap on ebay right now... not a scam had a few guys else where get them... those cams are in between a crane 20 and crane 22... they are a nasty nasty nasty cam.... and then at that point your going to have to run a 1:1 regulator and a return line... ms would be your best bet for fuel and spark... as you can see it can get wildly out of hand quick... but fun as hell too...

I would stick with the turbo. $1100 isnt anywhere near what you would need to get anywhere close to what that turbo is giving you.

thats not true my bimmeris 10:1 and i used 85 all day with no problems. higher octine is only nessacery if you experience knock and Turbos are just as bad when it come to that.

**** i like the idea...... everyone has gay turbos and in two months they sell em

My BMW

Im not trying to hate on all you turbo guys. But i think that this is a more reliable setup for an everday driver. less parts, less hassle, less things to go wrong.

your right.. it is more reliable...

your bmw's pcm is programed to run a lower oct. rating and is tuned for 10.1 just like the kia's that run 12.5.1 on pump gas there pcm will pull timing or do what ever it has to do to run on pump gas... ours wont...

Nice input. I think I have decided to run the 2dr high compression sohc and my 4dr turbo dohc. I just want to see what one I will like more So i will just build both of them. I am picking up a dohc engine, tranny, pcm, harness for a few hundred. I like the idea of having a fast all motor car but i will miss the turbo way to much. When that thing spools up like a jet plane and my front end lifts up I almost get wood. :-P

you would be much better off with a high compression dohc motor... the most ive seen a sohc push na is 203hp and that was done with about 8g in the motor and ms... dohc can get there much faster and with fewer parts...

zach pm me your email addy I want to show you a page that I cant post here... It will show you what it will take to get to where the big boy na guys are at...
