I am building a neon race car for a friend of mine and was wondering what is the minimum wiring to and from the pcm to make this this run. It is a 1997 2.0l sohc m/t. What consernse me is the speed control section.

 

If the car is compleatly a track car you can tear out 95% of it... and to be honest with you if your friend is serious and wants a ***** to the wall neon he needs to be running MegaSquirt... this will alow you to run the car off a laptop and compleatly ditch the stock pcm alltogether along with 95% of the wiring... the starter fan's lights, and the rest of the bear minimum that a race car needs sould be run off switches...

Heres the IMHO the only site you should be ordering your neon Megasquirt from seeing it comes with a base map to get you started... If you get it anywhere else you will have to figure it out... this way you can at least get it started then play to fine tune it... this will allow the motor to run at 100% of its potental instead of being dragged down from all the polution laws and economy settings...

This car is for dirt track racing. I have completely rebuilt the motor to stock specs exept for the cam it is a comp cam #10. Rules state that is has to be stock. Car has been completely gutted and roll caged. I appriciate the info and will probably order the Megasquirt. He also plans on putting in a better ignition.

 

does your rules say you can run a stand alone pcm???
or is it as long as the motor is stock kind of thing...

 

if you run a stock pcm then you will need to keep pretty much all of the engine wiring.....it all works together to make it a closed sirsuit

 

After a going over the prints I plan on removing:
Fuel lvl sns sig - running a fuel cell - will cheat a signal if needed -
A/C sw sense - no ac any more
egr sol ctrl - egr blocked off
fan relay ctrl - fan contolled by switch
chk eng lp dr - stock guage panel gone
speed cntrl vent - no cruise
spd ctrl vac - no cruise
duty cyl/evap sol - gone
power str press switch - not needed - will cheat a signalit if needed - grounded
gen lp driver - not needed
stop lp sense - not cruise
a/c comp rly ctrl - no ac

 

Seriosly looking at buying the Megasquirt but the base tune is for a 420a with dohc and turbo. I hope that rs-autosport can help with a base line for a sohc non-turbo base line tune.

 

honestly the tune between dohc stock and sohc is not much other then the fuel table... They can get you going at rs this guy is the neon megasquirt god... plus there are others out there that have similer setups and 95% of them will share there maps...
