Default 2.2 turbo

My brother just got his 2nd dodge shadow this one is 2.2 turbo. (turbo 2 motor i think) So my question is has anyone raced a stock one and beat it. If so are thay really that fast. My brothersworked 3.0 isreal fast i cant evenkeep up withhim with my ls vteccrx and yes i drive a honda the neon is the daily driver. It suckes cuz i spent2 times themoney on my motor then he did and i cant beat him. So again are thay really that fast?

The Turbo II2.2 has 175 Hp and and 200ft lbs of Torque.

Its not a myth they are fkn 12 second performers with stockmotor/turboslicks and mechanical boost controller.

Also they kill 3.0 V6s. 3.0s only have 140hp.

Its faster don't worry about that. Give me 5 minutes with the car and a screw driver and it will own V-8s! the3.0 is nothing to a properly adjustedboost controlleron a2.2 Turbo car, the 2.2 Turbo II cars were made to kill Cameros and Mustangs so a built 3.0 is not going to be much of a challenge. the 3.0 isn't much of a challenge to a stock 2.2 Turbo.

a stock Neon SOHC with the same Turbo as a 2.2/2.5 will own the 2.2 with less boost due to the SOHC Head breathing better.

with the Turbo 1's stock boost of about 7psithat motor makes 145hp with no intercooler, put that cars turbo on the Neon 2.0and you suddenly make 220Hp and 210ft lbs of torque. But on the flip side you can juice a 2.2/2.5 up to 30 psi on a stock motor but not without fuel system upgrades.

You can safely make7psi on a stock Neon Motor with stock fuel pump and regulator. Fuel system upgrades come after 10psi of boost.

A run of the mill turbo I 2.2 and 2.5 Turbo equiped car is certainly withina stockNeons grasp for racing but if its a Turbo II then you need some more work to be competitive.

Without the Turbo the 2.2s only make 98 Hp. The turbo does alot for these motors! but they are durable as fk and you can do whatever to them and they won't break. These motors are legends and the heads are the only thing that hold em back.

Some people have successfully mated the Neon SOHC and DOHC head to the 2.2 Block and made a monster of a motor.

Heres Everything you need for a Turbo Neon set up running 7psi. http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/9...urbokitrf7.jpg

Well what I did was I bought a Mitsubishi TE04 Turbo for $30 off a guy who had it on his Neon(Common Turbo found on89-93 Chrysler,Dodge and Plymouth 2.2 and 2.5Cars)

If you have a 2.2 or 2.5 donor car this swap will be much easier!

Pretty much what your going to need to do this the easiest way possible is to get a 2.2 or 2.5 Donor car/motor and your going to want to take the Turbo and map sensor off of the motor. If the oil feed and drain arent good go to Car Quest and get the high pressure 300psi flame resistant rubber hose and the nice brass fittings that fit in your turbo feed and oil T, this works VERY WELL and is a painless installation

(Many People don't know that you can actually wire in the 2.2/2.5map sensor into the stock Neon harness instead of using a map clamp, they use the same wire coding as the Neon so basically its nearlyplug and play) Swapping to the 2.2/2.5 TurboMap sensor will make it so your car can run on the turbo. Otherwise the stock Neon Map will fk with the fuel and screw everything up.

Your going to want to take off everything that is connected to the turbo, such as Oil drain, oil feed and save these for the swap.

Next Napa Auto Parts store sells these handy nipples for the Coolent fittings on the turbo, you only need 2 nipples for the outlet and inlet fittings for the turbo. I would remove the stock coolent fittings from the turboand use the Napa Nipples instead as they make life a WHOLE LOT EASIER! Next while at Napa pick up the plastic heater line T's, you'll need 2 of them and get6 hose clamps as well.

While at your local hardware store you'll need to make yourself an oil T fitting so you can tap into the engine for an oil feed source. The T is real easy to put together and costs about $5.

Then you'll need to find or buy a SOHC Turbo manifold (I just so happen to be selling my old homemade manifold) This will probably be the most expensive part of the turbo set up cuz most of the parts you can get for the normal cost of a tank of gas.

Alot of people say go with the fuel pump and rising rate fuel pressure regulator whichI found to beoverkill if your running less than 10psi. The stock injectors,Fuel Pump and regulator are good enough for 10 Psi and below.

Next you'll have to hit ebay for the good deals, you'll need a Mechanical Boost controller and boost gauge. The good Electrical boostcontrollers still arent as good or reliable as a good old fashioned mechanical boost controller. Your looking at about $40 for both the controller and gauge.

Next is the down pipe which I used flex exhaust piping to mod to my turbo flange. You can do whatever you want but I didn't care I just used flex pipe.

You can give me a pm if you have any questions.
