Default My 96 is in the repair shop

Yesterday my 96 neon broke down had to be towed to the repair shop. the towing guy said it sounded like she needs a new header. I hope thats all and not a rebuilt engine. she lost speed and smoked alot from the front of the engine and then came in it was like she was on fire got out and oil was leaking bad from front of engine.what do you guys think. she has a 187,000 miles and not much for the new transmission. I keep on fixing her cause shes so sweet lookin and ive had her for so long.

doesn't sound like a new header, sounds like a new head gasket, or was that some new cool hip lingo?

yeah i would have to go with a head gasket too, but that sounds like a lot of oil for a head gasket.

I have to take it out monday but how much do you think a head gasket would run.

The gasket's themselves aren't expensive - you have valve and head gaskets...The labor is what will make the price go up. I'm not sure about Neons, but valve gaskets aren't as hard to replace as head gaskets (hint: you may be able to do it yourself if you have the right tools!).
