Brakes Make Loud Noise When Coming to a Stop
Thisquestion is for my brother, not me. He has a 99 chevy cavalier. I know cavaliers sucks. But I need some advice on what the problem with his car may be. When I applythe brakes to come to a stop when I first start off driving, there is a loud clunking noise in the rear. The car shakes and sounds like it is going to fall apart and has a hard time stopping. It seems that it may be happening more in the cold, but I may be wrong with that. When I pump my brakes before I drive it seems to help the noise go away a little bit. It is deffinelty coming from the rear. What would cause this loud noise?
if they are drums; remove the drum and inspect it. may need to replace shoes or the whole rear drum assembly(wheel cylinder, hardware, etc.) got a buddy who is all too fimiliar with cavaliers, talk to him tomorrow and pm you.
pull the drums and inspect the brakes cavys aren't all that bad my sister had one drove it 95K miles with out ever changing the oil it ran like a champ after I started changing itstill runs great she still has it, they are not all that bad, too me cars are cars some people like fords, some like dodges, some like like hondas, ect.. but they are all cars basically all the same, however I do like my neon though but before that it was a ford probe couldn't do much with it though, neons the pocket book is the limit though LOL
what the 2 above said... and it might be hard to get the drum off it something has broken in there to begin with. If you buddy doesnt know brakes definitely have him take it somewhere unless you plan on shuttling him back and forth alot to the junkyard or the parts stores while he works on his car.
