I don't think it's the rear min because we just put a new clutch in it yesterday and the tranny was off. the oil leak was high up in the back but not bad enough that it drips. i felt around the edge of the head for the MLS gasket and it was metal.
I ended up using Castrol Syntec Full Synthetic 10W-40 at the advice of my best friend who's a service manager at a Dodge Dealership.
not takeing anything away from your friend but you will have to replace that oil every 5k or so due to it brakeing down like all engine motor oil does... and it is going to be a bit thick in cold weather causing a stiffer shift... it also does not have the proper properties that the transmission needs to fully lubricate all areas of the transmission witch is going to cause it to fail sooner then useaull...
There was a guy on another forum that was in a advanced chemistry collage coarse who did this experiment as his final... To the point of getting new mtx oil from mopar (the stuff that is supposed to go in our transmission) and throwing it threw some fancy machine witch gave the exact chemical compound of the mtx fluid... he then tested over 120 different automotive oils, from different viscosity motor oils to syncro oil other transmission oil's and any other type of oil he could get his hands on... turned out that atf+4 was the closest match to about 99.3%. there was just one oil modifyer that was slightly different in it... this was done in like 2003... I can dig the post back up but it will take me like 4 hours to do. its buryed deep within the forum by now... but i may have some luck and find it in 10 mins or so... I will spend about 15 mins looking for it and if i dont find it I dont find it...
Roger that my friend. SO I would be better off draining what's in there and replacing it with the ATF+4 even though I have a manual shift transmission?
