Speedometer suddenly stopped working Any Ideas?
My speedometer suddenly stopped working and I recently noticed at the same time my speedometer stopped working thatmy fuel gauge is now very verysensitive to acceleration and moves as much as a 1/8 tank, could it be my Cluster or PCM?
My speedo stopped working a while back and i found a guy on ebay who fixes them. It's very common in first gen neons and you just need to buy a new one. I payed $60 for mine and got one with a tac. Check ebay.

I do remember someone posting about how to fix them yourself... i don't remember who that was.

I had to take mine apart and resolder all the connections for the 2 plug-ins and then it worked all the time... I could actually see a couple of cold solder joints so I knew which ones were bad but decided to do them all anyway since I already had the thing apart.
I have 2 clusters and I swapped them both in and out and they both worked with the exception of the speedo, could be coincidence that they both might be bad?

does either of them start working if you give the dash a slap or press on the cluster? I have 2 different clusters too, the original and the 8K tach one. The tach one always went goofy and then the original one started doing it to, so I went back to the tach one and did the repair on it and it has worked flawlessly since then. I also cleaned the connectors in the dash(major pain to get at easily) with a small file to score the metal a bit to make sure all the pins can make a good contact.
My speedo always went on and off. When I pushed on a plug on the tranny it always went back on. Did you try pushing on the cluster to make sure its in and has a good connection? I had a problem with that.
I haven't looked at the car since last night, but I'm leaning on that possibly the transmission sending unit either got wet or isjust not working and then I'm going to check out the possibility of the clusters both being fkd up.
