Default Neon Transmission Swap

Hello, I own a 95 neon sport 2.o DOHC, rebuilt only 10k ago, just wondering what all it would entail or if it is at all possible to swap the auto transmission out of car for a manual 5 sp? It is a stock car used for daily driver, don't care about performance just fuel mileage. Lemme know if you have any info on the subject. Appreciate it

Possible yes. You need to buy and change the tranny, cv axles, weld a bobble strut mounting spot, remove brake and replace with clutch/brake assembly, remove shifter and shift linkage and replace with manual stuff, tranny fluid. Mess with the wire harness a little. Plug off 2 holes on radiator. I think thats about it. Oh yea. You need a clutch and flywheel. and clutch cable. All mounting spots for the manual stuff are on every neon.

you will also need to change the tranny mount since the mount bolts differently to either trans....

you dont actually NEED a rear bobble strut..i havent had one on my car in a long time and havent had any problems....hell, half the time the bobble strut doesnt work properly anyways..

Default Dodge Neon Transmission Swap - Detailed instructions

Hey anyone who wants to do an ATX to MTX transaxle swap for a 1st generation 1995-1999 dodge neon, check out my website.

www.w103rtm.freevar.com

I just completed it and it covers my experiences with doing the swap. I took a fair amount of video, I took 60 or so pictures and it is a complete step by step guide of how to do the swap. It's user friendly allowing you to skip directly to certain sections and aspects of the swap. I used the Haynes Repair Manual as a reference and a few online references including ones posted on this forum. This online manual I made is a step by step guideline of how to do the swap from the very beginning with removing the drivers seat to get to the pedal -to- center console -to- pedals and to the swap itself. It also covers electrical issues.

My current neon was swapped from atx to mtx, minus the bobble strut. There is a difference with strut there. It was put there by the factory, and should be installed along with all the other engine mounts incorporated in a 5sp neon.

I see no one has mentioned the rear engine block to mtx brace for the back of the block.

My website covers the "rear lateral support bracket" AKA "rear engine to MTX brace." Also I would not recommend going without a bobble strut, but you can go without it. I just would avoid really hard shifts if you do go without it.

-MTX Install
----D. Install Manual Tranny (Part I)
--------5. Install the transaxle to rear lateral support bracket (7A.5.22), torque - 40 ft-lbs

Default Thanks Nuklhed074

My website isn't perfect but my goal was to make the swap as detailed and "easy" as I could make it. Patience is still very important and unfortunately you can't write a manual on that. By the way I love the black on black look! Headlights are awesome too!
