My car's first service engine light brought me to this.

 

There is no error code P1404 for the neon that I know of.

Did you try the key dance to pull the code?
To read any codes on your neon, put the key in the ignition and cycle it to ACC on-off-on-off-on within 5 seconds. As the CEL flashes, count the number of flashes. This represents the code. An example would be flash-flash-flash-flash, pause, flash-flash-flash, which would be a Code 43, single or multiple cylinder misfire. A list of codes can be found HERE or HERE.

So where is P1404 then?

 

look for a EGR Valve problem like if you got The 5Volt form the ECM and a good ground, it may be a sensor too, or the valve itself
