2.4 dohc block sohc head would be...
9.47 + 1.3 = 10.77 - 0.13 = 10.64:1

ok so its not as high as i thought... but its still high...

omg you Rock! Thats actually not that bad, its high but its managable. Thanks so much for doing the math on it

What will I need to run this motor safe at 10.6:1 ? injector upgrade possibly?

Unlike the 2.0 will a 2.4 have alot of low end power? this car will likely be used just as passenger car and a work car and one of the things my wife complains about is the car not having enough low end power with passengers. I hope the 2.4 will make the car move good off the line with the automatic.
ok you will need to run the 24lb injectors anyways for the 2.4 swap... and will be enuf for the extra boost in compression...

the 2.4 is a tq monster anyways plus the bump in compression is going to add more then the sohc is going to add more... so say the least yoru going to have a tq laviaton...

ATX tranny acually performs better with the increase in tq then when used with a lesser powered 2.0.... you may need to adjust the kickdown a bit to better handle the increase in hp and tq so it will shift appropriotly but it will like it...

Hey thats awesome to know, now instead of dreading the job I'm really looking forward to what lays ahead. I might actually want to take the car back from my wifelol. thanks alot Jeremy I really appreciate it.

Also with the 2.4 i have some questions about the alternator and power steering pump brackets i know you probably have this in your swap info but I didn't see anything when I skimmed through about why I would need a PT cruiser bracket for the Alternator and Power steering. Are they too big or in the way? or just bad spot?

thanks.

Its got a pretty good design maybe not as efficient as adohc but for na and near stock build the sohc is the way to go for a 2.4 from what I've heard just because you don't have to take the motor all the way apart to puthigher compression pistonsin and both heads flow very well. I'm sure when you get down to max power and unlimited moneya dohc is the best but for applications with near stock parts the sohc is a pretty good head. Like i said in the other thread of Jeremys that I had did the dohc swap on my first 5 speed neon and I was disapointed there wasn't a more noticable gain if any at all. I wanted to feel a gain but I could never say there was a gain because I thought it was in my head but I swapped the dohc tranny from the donor car and I was very very fast then. Night and day.

Horsepower aside theres only 2-3ft lbs of torque difference between the sohc and dohc and so the gearing makes all the difference and sohc gears suck (for power anyway).

Right now I'm porting the head from my 95 motor and I think it will be a nice fit for the 2.4 seeing its got theagressivefactory cam in it not the dogwater 96-99 cam. I'm just excited to have a 2.4 and I can't wait for the torque fest. This should be able to smoke a Quad 4CavalierI suspect?
