Will 2.0 SOHC head work on 2.4 DOHC block?
I picked up a 2.4 bottum end recently and the head was messed up when another motor fell on it and broke parts of the original dohc head off and I was wondering if i can use a 2.0 sohc head on it? my wifes car has bad rings or some unknown frustrating problem still and I would like to do the 2.4 swap to the car.
I won't ask how the swap goes for putting it in the car as Jeremy has provided one but I would like to know if I can use the sohc head on the the 2.4 bottum end. thanks.

like das said yes it will fit however only a few have done it...
you also have to think that the compression ratio is going to shoot threw the roof... like somewhere in the range of 12.0 to 1 or higher... just like the2.0, but due to the extra inch of stroke your going to go even higher.

but what kind of mods would i need to run that higher compression safely? could I go with a thicker head gasket?see i have a 95 motor that I was going to put in then I got a hell of a deal on a 2.4 recently so I want to put that in instead.
I was doing some research and found that the cc of the sohc head combustion chamberwere 56cc and the dohc was 72cc could be wrong but thats what desktop dyno says. Exactly how much compression would I gain from putting the sohc head on? has anybody done it and can I get a thicker head gasket to compensate for the increased compression?
thanks
Here is a video of a 2nd gen running a 2.4 block with a SOHC head...

As for the compression I don't think its going to be around 12-1 with a sohc headjust because they use the same Neon DOHC head on the motor and it makes 9.4-1 it may end up being close to 10-1 once the sohc head is onbut I don't believe 11 or 12-1. I think the 2.4 may use a dish or relief to compensate for the compression difference since they were using a Neon based dohc.
I'm excited to get this motor together, I have a 95 head with themore agessivestockcam in it and I bought a MLS gasket today and tomorrow I'm going to pull the head off the 95 block and swap it onto the 2.4.
So after putting on a95 head with stockagressive cam and ported head, chikara header with no cat and 60mm throttlebody, how much power should I expect to be around with these parts?
also how will the powerband be on the 2.4?
thanks.

ok lets look at this the easy way...
this is what will happen with the different heads and blocks with a 2.0
SOHC pistons with a DOHC head=9.3:1
DOHC pistons with a DOHC head=9.6:1
SOHC pistons with a SOHC head=9.8:1
DOHC pistons with a SOHC head=10.3:1
and like you said... the 2.4 has 9.47:1 compression... so...
2.0 dohc block dohc head = 9.6:1
2.4 dohc block dohc head = 9:5:1
so thats a 0.13:1 difference
2.0 dohc block sohc head 10.3:1
witch is a 1.3:1 difference from its stock form... so
2.4 dohc block sohc head would be...
9.47 + 1.3 = 10.77 - 0.13 = 10.64:1
ok so its not as high as i thought... but its still high...

omg you Rock! Thats actually not that bad, its high but its managable. Thanks so much for doing the math on it

What will I need to run this motor safe at 10.6:1 ? injector upgrade possibly?
Unlike the 2.0 will a 2.4 have alot of low end power? this car will likely be used just as passenger car and a work car and one of the things my wife complains about is the car not having enough low end power with passengers. I hope the 2.4 will make the car move good off the line with the automatic.
