Again, I am not knocking sohc cars, and he does have a nice car for what he spent. Certainly gets the job done. a 2.4L turbo that will cost me 1500 or so to run low 12's to high 11's (with room to spare) is what keeps me from running a sohc. How much did he get the eclipse by?

 

first off... the car on the org that dyno'ed at 198 was no where near stock what so ever... Good luck finding that crane 005

-2.4L 1998 bloc with eagle rod & wisco 10.5:1 piston with SRT-4 Oil & Water pump and a modded SRT-4 tensionner (just the bracket). I used the 2.0L back timing belt cover with some mod.

-2000 SOHC[/b] homemade ported head with mopar oversize SS valve with crane 005. I've got the 2.4L AEM cam gear with a shim to time it well with the crank. The head have been welded and machined up too bolt a Magnum header on it.

-I run a custom plastic intake with a custom made 60mm TB and magnum AFX longtube along with a 2.25 catback(for the moment)
-I've got a custom made UDP with an aluminum ligthweigth Spec/Luk clutch

-I've got the AFX race computer with a SAFC and a Wide Band O2 sensor for tuning.

 

He got the Eclipse by about 3 cars because it was deffinitly hard to see with the brightEclipse lights blinding us in the mirrors. After we talked to the guy for about a half hour and about a thousand excuses were made why a brand new Eclipse got took by a 10 year old Neon. Slash started to deny having the turbo then the guy called bs because he said he heard "turbo spool" so then Slash said "yeah you got me" and the guy said it wasn't a fair race because Slash had a turbo and Slash said "so its fair for V6 5 speed 210+Hpbrand new Eclipse to race a 10 year old neon with a atx and sohc?" lol I busted out laughing in front of them. I gota admit that atxkeeps the motorin boost the whole time which is nice for consistant burning.

Back to the 2.4 swap, I might put it on the back burner for now just becauseI am pretty much run out of money.I would put it in as a dohc but I do not have an extradohc intake manifold.

I would use the stock manifold but people say it wont fit, if it would fitI don't really care if its tight so long as it fits.

 

it will dig into the radiator by about 1/2 inch...

I have one laying out in the garage... i can match it up pretty close and show you...

95-99 dohc heads flow better. The 2000+ 2.4L head have smaller exhaust valves.
