piston #2 hasis melted on the top right corner. there is some slight damage to cylinder 2 and 3. nothing deep, just surface stuff. looks like those two cylinders are bone dry. damn... this thing mustv got way hotter than i thought....

so crap. now i need a piston at least... i was hoping this prob could be solved by just taking the head off. i dunno if i have whati need to get the bottom end off and get the pistons out.

k so the headgasket is also warped for sure. but i did realize what i thought was slight cylinder wall damage was just dust from where the melted piston broke. what could i use and how would i go about cleaning a cylinder wall?

that sucks about the pistons, i did that to my work truck, melted the tops of 2 of them on a 6 cylinder natural gas engine

needs to be a neon meet up on the west coast, but no one on either board seems to be from this side of the country, when i get my land next july i might set one up

if i drop the oil pan - are my pistons as simple as unbolt from crank and push rod through the top?

yeah they are... just undo the rod cap bolts and push with a wooden handle of a hammer...

are you stripping the block all the way down...

If so you might as well just take the block down to a machine shop and have them dip the block to clean it... it only cost about 20 bucks... then have them check the cylinder wall clearance... if its in good shape then just have them hone the cylinders... it cost 4 bucks a cylinder where i live so your looking at under 50 bucks to check your block... then find a seller on ebay that goes by the name of mizimo or something like that... just search for neon pistons you will find him... get a full engine gasket kit for about 75 bucks and then a set of pistons for like 40 bucks and a set of rod bearings and main bearings... i think he even sells a kit that is a full re-build gaskets pistons rings bearings everything for like 309... pretty cheap... I would take the head in to get checked if its warped too... most shops will check for free..

12.1 is a bit much and would require a few more upgrades to make them worth while... like cams bigger tb longtube header... msd ignition 24 lb injectors...not to mention the gas issue... it will suck gas like mad and need 91 octane or higher all the time...
