98 SOHC Toasted Water Pump
ORIGINAL: MightyMouse1988
I was just reading through the forum to see if i could find my questions already asked..and i found yours...i have a 95 dodge neon, we bought it used a year ago or so and i dont know exactly what upgrades have been done to it. All i know for sure is; intake, headers, magnaflow oval street series universal muffler, and a short shift kit, from who i dont know. But anyway im not sure what happened but while i was driving it at about 50 and was almost empty on gas, going up a kinda steep little hill the car died? Well since i was low on gas i called a friend so we could put some gas in it, then i tried starting it but it wouldnt start. It turns over normally but wont start. After a few minutes checking the car i looked under the engine on the belt side and water was just running out of it. I havent been able to check to see the damage cause i dont have any tools really anymore and im not even sure where to start to get the cover off. I did over heat the car a couple of times during the winter cause since we went used we didnt know that there wasnt coolent just water in it. So it all froze and would take like an hour or so to break up. So since that happend im thinking maybe the water pump, but what else could it be? I called a shop to get the water pump fixed but they told me that it would cost like 500 dollars to get it fixed. I thought it seemed a little high for just a water pump.

Why? Just why? No excuse. Water in winter=cracked block. On top of that you over heated it. Your lucky you didnt turn your head into a wave. You lucky your engine isnt leaking out the head gasket. When you change your water pump you should just buy a timing belt pulley, oil pump, and pull the head so that means head gasket set. And take your head in to get checked/machined if needed. Dont buy the ebay head gasket. It didnt work very well for me. Just sit down and do it yourself. Its really easy. Use rent-a-tools from your local auto parts storre. You will need a hanyes manual. It will be your friend.
