Default Alternator and a leak?

I’m trying to figure this out and its got me a little puzzled I haven’t seen this before, I’ve check the crank and alternator pulleys and they seem fine no sharp spots that I can tell, so is it possible for a over tighten alternator belt to cause the belt to be cut straight down the middle?

And sorry one more thing I’ve worked with leaky head gaskets and even cracked heads but not to many leaky blocks so could such a small imperfection could cause such a big coolant leak I know its kind of hard to see in the pic so I circled it and have a arrow pointing at it and its still kind of hard to see it’s actually pretty small spot on the block and its not really all that big of an imperfection.

Thanks for any input

Im not sure for the belt but yes its possible and it was maybe a bad one. For the head gasket... yes just a little crack can cause a major leak, just imagine the pressure during the explosion and the vaccum when the piston goes down in the intake stroke. It absolutly have to be perfect

I agree with the major leak.

is it just a little nick or is it a crack all the way to the cylinder wall??? the pic is to glarey...

You may be able to have someone take a welder and just add a little blog right there and then have a machine shop give it a decking to make sure its true and flat...

but yes that will cause a major leak...

Hello and sorry I did not get back sooner to post

No 95to96transplantneon the little spot doesn’t seem to go all the way to the cylinder wall about half way to it so I'd say more like a pretty good nick and sorry about pic it was a bit hard to take with the block still being in the car.lol
However I did take a precision straight edge and check the block and did find some low spots on the deck about .004 low in a couple of spots. I went and talked to a few of the machine shops and they said to try a .010 thicker gasket and thatshould work. So even though I thought it was a long shot I went ahead andtried putting on the thicker gasket to compensate for the low spots and the good news is that it did get rid of the oil that was running down the back of the block and there is no coolant in the oil but I actually never had coolant in the oil but what I did have was oil in the coolant and unfortunately there is still oil in the coolant so I guess I’ll have to pull the block and have it check for cracks and resurface.

I know that putting on the thicker gasket only had a fifty/fifty chance of it working well ok maybe more like a thirty/seventy. lol

Who knows maybe in my case it’s not even the low spots that’s causing it maybe it’s something that I can’t even see like a crack although the spots were pretty low maybe it was just to low for a thicker gasket to work.

One last thing what would be best sealant for sealing the threads on the head bolts and how much of the thread would one apply it like all of the threads or only half?
I haven’t been having very good luck with what I’ve been using lately.

Thanks to all for all the input.
