What Codes ID a 1999 Neon R/T RT
My granddaughter wants a Neon. I found one with a "bad" motor. It is a 2 door. The owner claims it is a R/T. It has been repainted and has some non OEM stick on R/T decals on the front fenders. What codes will tell me if it was a factroy RT? And - where are they at? Where did Dodge hide the build sheet?
It has a full body kit and shaved doors but is pretty ratty overall. Any pics of a real stock R/T so I can redo the car paint and striping as original?
I checked the VIN - 1B3ES42Y5XD125316 - but it apparently does not differentiate among Highline/Sport/R/T builds.
Any and all help will be appreciated.

The Dodge Neon R/T, with its distinctive 'skunk stripes', was introduced to enthusiasts at the Neon97 get-together in July of 1997. That fall it appeared at dealers as a '98 model. The R/T designation is a Mopar tradition, indicating a performance model of a given car, often introduced toward the end of the design run. This car is similar to the ACR in many ways, but includes the comfort options available in the Sport package. Luxury items include standard leather-wrapped steering wheel & shifter, as well as optional power windows, locks, and mirrors. Unlike the original Sport, both R/T Sedans and Coupes use the SDE (Sport) suspension, which was revived for this application. It is the stiffest, most aggressive handling package short of the ACR's competition tuning. R/Ts are only available with the DOHC engine & performance "A" manual transmission. Antilock brakes are optional. R/Ts are available in only four colors: Flame Red with silver stripes, Black with silver stripes, Intense Blue with silver stripes, and Bright White with blue stripes.Stripes can be deleted as an option; however, there is no credit issued against the car's price. The interior features the Sport-type seats with improved side bolsters and special Tango fabric, also known as "worm tracks". Originally, this was black with multicolored accents. Later in the model history, the accents became color-matched to the exterior of the car

There is no specific digit in the VIN to denote R/T. A real R/T will have the afore mentioned leathewr steering wheel and shift ****. It would also be a DOHC with a 5 speed. The rear brakes will be disc.It should have P185/65HR14 tires,the R/T only rims, front and rear sway bars, color keyed door handles. Power Bulge hood etc. If you need pics of an unmolested stock R/T, I can take some pics of any part you need, just ask.

You will never see a Chrysler or Plymouth R/T and if you do its fake.
R/T started back in the 1960s, The best known R/Ts are the 1966-70 Chargers and 70-71 Challengers, these aren't the only R/Ts obviously but they are some ofthe finest examples of aR/T branded cars.

that was quoted out of a faq written by gary howell from howell automotoive... Theres a few things that are contriditory to acuall fact... just like some of his statements like the 2.0 with a shorty header will make more hp then a 2.0 with a long tube... crazy...
