Default '97 Sohc, is the starter really this bad to replace?

Chiltons says to drop the front of the motor, or remove everything from the front of the car (rad. fans, rad., batt. etc.) I'm no mechanic, but I can do basic maint. Is all this really necessary?

I have not had to pull my starter off yet - I will be doing that next weekend when I replace my motor.

Pulling the Rad. Fan and Radiator is no problem - and it does give you a lot of room to work with - the Radiator I believe is held in by two bolts - the Fan is held in by two more bolts - I wrecked and had to replace my radiator - what a Piece of Cake it was to yank the radiator out and replace it!

Hmmm...being a weak mechanic, I thought it would be difficult. I'll find out soon I guess. Thanks for the reply!

You don't need to pull anything, I have a 98 SOHC and I can just pull the two bolts, the lower one on the starter side, and the upper one on the transmisson side. Other than that the plug pulls right off, and then the + cable, it shouldn't take more than 15 mins to pull.
