Default rack and pinion removal procedure

In the shop manual for the 1995 Neon, they say to remove the front suspension crossmember for R&P removal. Isthat necessary or is there an alternate way to remove the R&P without removing the crossmember???

No. You have to keep in mind that you will have to disconnect the r&p from the steering column as well. The part of the r&p that connects to the steering column extends about 10" into the frame of the car. Without removing the cross member or your transmission, there is little/no room to work with.
