Missed your question. The exhaust valve is smoothed out and polishing. The rings on the intake valves are to break up the clumps of fuel for easy "digestion" in the combustion chamber. The exhaust valve shoudl be made as smooth as possible to increase the velocity the the exhaust exits the head.
