Default Lowering springs

One of my friend has some Tein lowing springs and says theya are great. Thought about getting them for my car, but they say they only fit 2000 and up neons. Would they not work on a 98?

Depending on the drop, 2nd gen lowering springs sit about stock height on 1st gens. 2nd gen stock springs are taller than 1st gens, so 2nd gens see more of a drop going with 1st gens, but not the other way around.
