It was most likely a D16y7. According to what i've looked up on your guys Neons, you should be able to take him. Watch the launch and thats my whole advice. You should easily kill him off the line(VTEC means no torque,at least without focred induction). Good Luck!

I'm not arguing anymore. I replyed like a page ago and apologized. I bought a 2000 neon and it broke down first day 1 hour after buying it from the dealer with 68k on it. I came here for advice and saw this post. I noticed somebody claimed to have killed my style(02-05 Si) and i was just in a bad mood so i posted. I'm sorry for it and I took it on on this. Ok, found out for sure for you. The 1990 to 1993 SE's and EX's have the F22(a 2.2ltr non-vtec). The LX and DX have 125hp and non-vtec. The 94+ have a rating of 140hp and are Vtec equipped. But these are all for the 4-bangers. The V6 is unknown to me.

 

The accords dont have any of the same engines as any of the civics as far as I know. Most have large four cylinder engines as far as I know. THere are some V6 which are pretty fast don't know exactly. Most accords are slow off the line and that is where you should race one, not from a role.
