Long answer...
An intercooler is used in forced induction setups ie...turbo, supercharged. In witch the compressed air coming from the turbo/supercharger is forced threw piping into the intercooler, when this compressed air reaches the intercooler it acts like a radiator and cools the air that at this time is compressed. When air compresses it heats up, and we all know that cooler denser air means more HP. After it leaves the intercooler it is piped into the TB using piping.

Short answer...
It cools down the air in turbo cars.

i'm about to save you from ALOT of flaming.... you use an Intercooler in turbo charged cars.... A turbo charger uses exhaust gases to spin a turbine and create thrust, but that air is hot so it travels through a connected intercooler pipe to typically the front of the car via the "hot" side, and to the intercooler(looks like a giant chrome radiator in the front bumper) then as the air is cooled by the intercooler it then travels through the "cold" side pipe into your throttle body and bam you have boost [sm=gears.gif] and of course there are variations but this is gerenaly the most common one

question: I work on jets, in some places jets will use fuel in a heat exchanger of sorts to cool oil/air whatever and to heat the fuel making it easyer to vaporize.has anyone ever heard of this type of application done with a car?

Then get a Cold Air Intake. An intercooler on a non forced induction car is a waste of time. I see/hear your theory, but that's all it is....is theory. No significant gains will come of it.

A heat exchanger and an intercooler are similiar in design, being that they both cool down whatever flows through them.....kinda like the radiator.

thx das just a thought. what are the options for forced air induction, I like this car but it needs to be quiker to accelerate.
