Default Just installed the underdrive pulley....

What a royal pain in the ***. For anyone with the old Briggs and Stratton pulley on their Neon, be aware that the bolt that holds the pulley in place is NOT long enough to use a pulley puller against. You can use it to break it loose and back it out a bit, but for the last bit you need to drill the center hole of the pulley out to 5/8" so that the center adjuster can go against the end of the crankshaft. That is if the pulley puller has a shaft too large to fit inside the hole to begin with. Mine is good size and it still bent the adjuster with all of the force it needed to break that bastard loose. I was swearing that it had better make a difference and it did not dissapoint. Throttle response is up and it seems to have more power throughout each gear. It had just finished raining a little bit and the tires were breaking loose on the wet pavement through 3rd gear with no problem. That is without really getting on it. We will see about the better gas mileage.

Lucky! What is the make of the puller that you have? Is it a Mopar part?

Yep yep. Easy to take off. I can use just about any kind 3 claw puller and get it off. You just need a skinny bolt thats long enough to hit the end of the crank threads.

Ahhh, so the smaller one works better due to the slim center adjuster. That would have made life a whole lot easier. Oh well. Its over now and on to the header. That will probably have to wait untill the 4th of July weekend.

do you have a DOHC or SOHC? if you have a DOCH you will have to take the alternator bracket off. and get some new metric nuts because most of them are broken off in the head. Despite the ackward possion of the bolts they are easy to get out, I used vice grips, and with no effort at all.

SOHC. The only thing that the manual states for removal for the exhaust manifold is the power steering fluid reservoir. Yeah, the exhaust manifold bolts are listed to torque only 16 ft lbs. Thats pretty light.

You know whats really funny, I had my exhaust manifold bolts out 5 times in the last year all stock original as well, I only have 4 of them holding my chikara header on right nowcuz I lost the others in my tool box but so far no leaks!.
