how come it seems like thats all all the other people say on the other sites? I'm on several sites and whenever i bring up that i'm looking for another Neon or whatever. all they say is sell all of mine and buy an SRT4 cause its the only one worth it. and then i point out that i would love to have an SRT4 but the cost plus insurance is a killer. and all they seem to say in response is...get an SRT4.
why is it that thats the only Neon people remotely like??? aye. sry [sm=rant.gif]

I feel the same way, and find that the srt4 power plant is ideal for a 1G. And srt4 will go low 14's to high 13'a bone stock. Swap that into a 1G and got mid 12's bone stock. The 2.4L is a stronger block, and boosted makes it that much more of a monster in either model. They really are not that difficult to build and would save a few bucks. That is my next move.

The SRT-4 motor is indeed nice, but it's not really all that powerful when you think about it..... considering the weight of the car its in...
I mean, if I put a 240hp/240ftlbs of torque motor into something that only weighs 3000lbs....I would hope it would be fast...especially turbo'd....

i have never liked srts, just me. i think an engine swap in a first gen it way nicer and atleast it shows that the people that do it can work on there cars... kinda have a clue what is going on under the hood, but there is alot of srt owners that are just like i bought a low 14 sec car andi am the ****... those are the people that bother me about srts, the people that build the srts to get 600-700 whp that is just cool, but for the most part most of us do not have that kinda money to build a car like that....
pritty much it depends on the driver of the car....

i wouls still rather spend $1,000 on a 1st gen...then about $6,000 on a motor..then another $3,000 on suspension....and maybe $2,000 on exterior mods....right there thats $12,000
$12,000 spent on a fully decked out car that would blow away a modded srt4 for roughly about the same price

First generation Neons are way better looking than 2nd gen thats just my opinion, my friend has a black 2003 SXT 5 speed that is done tastfully and its probably my favorite 2nd gen Neon. Srt's are actually kinda black sheepish for looks compared to 1st gens.
I agree the srt-4 motor was better suited for the 1st Generation Neon, too bad Chrysler was too little too late with that motor. Imust stab this in everyones back, the SRT-4 started in 1999, last year of the first gen [&:].
