Your Coolant Temperature Sensor may be bad if it is truly overheating and not showing up on the gauge. As to the overheating...are your fans turning on? My car started overheating cause the fans were turning on, but not when they were supposed to. It turned out to be the Cooling Fan Temperature Switch. Try making sure there's no air in your cooling system. Is it leaking any where or showing any codes?

Fuel pump may be overheating and shutting down. Another culprit could be the crankshaft position sensor.
