i just went outside, there was a road about .8 miles long, hit 120, then ha to slow donw, i had my windows and sunroof open, should have closed them
it was hilly and taking a bump at 110+ is awesome

im gonna go were i drove my buddy firebird lt1(take that ghostneon) to 180
then im gonna take off my speedomiter stopper needle, and use a protractor and draw where 130 140 and 150 shoulld be on some overhead projector lamination and stick it on there

then try to hit 149(govrn on mopar ecu)

When I first got my Neon it had bad plug wires and I could easily hit 110mph, took me a while mostly because I was concerned with how the car could handle it and the bad plug wires but it was possible. When i got new plug wires I started to gain confidence in the car when it was no longer burping below 3500rpm. now I just have pretty basic mods just opened up the breathing a bit of the motor through header and cold air intake or what it technically is on my setup 'semi cold air intake'. It some respects I almost think the car had more power in the lowend rangewith the stock exhaust manifold but deffinitly has better high end breathing.

As for the gas, the needle seems to drop pretty quick from 1/4 tank and below ESPECIALLY under beatings like the video, i have yet to run the thing dry but during the making of this video thats the lowest I ever had it in the 2 years I've had it on the road. I went about 5 miles with the needle nearly resting on the stop before I found a gas station.

On a side note, the wind at 115mph sounds cool, thecar almost sounds like its on a Space Shuttle Rocket only at 1% the speed of a real rocket

 

I know I put this thread up about doing 100mph+ in a Neon but please don't kill yourself over my stupidity of doing it. I don't recomend doing 100mph or more unless you know what you are doing to the fullest extent and have taken all the pre cautions of making sure your car is fit for those speeds. I'm not gonna lie I'm interested in finding out the results of your max speed test but I do not want you to kill yourself doing it, in other words do at **YOUR OWN RISK** this goes for everyone who attempts this or something similar.

Get a video of it if you do it, prefferably have a passenger record it for you so you can concentrate on the road better. It don't mean anything unless you got a video, I would have felt like crap saying I got to 115mph without having some ammount of proof. Speaking of proof the 180mph in a Firebird seems unlikely, your friend probably had lower gears in his car and was doing 130-140 max and his speedo was reading something 1/3 faster than what he was actually going, 4.11 gears work great!. Not a stock GM except a G4 or betterVett will do 150mph or more, good luck in a Firebird with all that Aero dynamic drag and even a 400hp motor and stock gearing.

I hear all the time how Monte Carlos can do 180mph but all a Monte Carlo was seeing last summer was my Neons taillights from 300feet behind mewhen I nearly lost him at 115mph. I know he was going for it too because even whenI slowed back down to 90mph he was trying to pass so I got on it again and lost him for good.

 

uhhhh, no one said it was stock, its about 18k dollars away from stcok, and i have a vid of us going 151mph.
we did not videotape 180, camera was dead, didnt want to wait

on sunday on this road, no intersections, no traffic (church time)
and 2.2 miles to fly

 

I know youprobably know what your doing but I just want to put out a pre caution so i don't get sued byanyones parents ifthey die somehow doing it, plus I care.

As for the Firebird it would be nice to know details about it,unless he has stock gearing that jives with what the speedo issayingI don't think the 180mph stands any credibility unless clocked by radar by professional standards in which then he'd have proof of it. When you change gearing you change the credability of the stockspeedometer and like I said stock gearing isn't going to get you to 180mph in afirebird the speedo doesn't even go that high, we're talking 9,000 Rpm in 5th gear going 180mph. No way anybody on here or anywhere is going to believe that even in video form.

I trust you that you think it went 180mph and I don't think your trying to lie about anything but no way that car has done 180mph especially if your relying on the stock speedo to tell the truth.

 

i have no clue wat is done to it, ill ask, and the needle went past the 150mph mark, we measure it via video freeze frame
a mile or two either way of 180

Which is it? dude tell your friend to stop telling this silly story about his car doing 180mph, tell him if he wants to keepspewing that get it proffessionally clocked. I would not go by measuring past the speedo and call that my proof.

no we did not video tape us going 180, we did during 150
he is gogin to summer college in ky, ill see if i cant borrow his car or have him come up for a weekend and do it

I'm not impressed by this screen shot especially when theres a guy on youtube who jacked his Neons front end up and did a max speed video up to 135mph, nevermind it hit 135mph in12 seconds.

I really want to see paper proof or radar or lazer proofof him doing it or even the real video would be nice. if this was 140mph I'd say ok and not even question it but 180mph is quite the jump and if you go from the stock gear ratios of 3.08 to 4.11s you'll be hitting 150 mph on the speedo when your only doing 130 and if he has different tires on the back that makes a difference too. This whole 180mph firebird is so bogus, if he had $18,000 in the motor he'd have enough money to get radar proof of speed at a track.

Its like saying I got a 16inch **** but with no proof its nothing more than a story and thats what this is.
