Transmission Or Clutch HELP ME PLEASE
ok well today i discovered that i dont even need to use my clutch.. well ill start with this
i cant put my car into reverse without horrible grinding and then i cant put it into first after reversing i have to shut off the car and shift into first.. when comeing to a stop light i have to start to put it into first while still rolling and it will slip in at the very last second before a complete stop and i have to force it into second (but no grinding) and it will sometime shift smootly from second to 3rd but if not i rev of to 2500 rpms and it goes in perfectly.. well today i found out while im driving i can shift from 3rd to 4th to 5th without the clutch and without grinding anything.. and from 4th to 3rd and 3rd to 4th pretty freely, but if i go 5thto 3rd then i have to rev to 2500.. so is this the clutch or the trans?
i know the trans is already fked becuz i have to hold it in 4th asnd 5th and the speedo gear in the trans is off of its track... but then when i was passing a couple weeks ago i was in 3rd and went to shift into 4th and went into 2nd at 80 mph.. and thats when my problems started.(obviously) so is my clutch bad also?
the reason im asking is Ghost is gonna send me a new trans soon and i dont want to uninstall the old one and reinstall this one and have the clutch to be bad also... so then i would have to take the trans back off and blah blah blah i know i could buy a new one but yeah
another question.. does the type of clutch you get deppend on the engine or the transmission? im sure its the trans..

Sounds more like a clutch cable. Sounds like your clutch isnt pulling off all the way. Try playing with the spring that goes threw the fire wall. I heard if you pull it one way or the other it will change the clutch response. Otherwise check into getting another cable. WHen you try to get into first. Let out on the clutch and push it back in and then try to get it into first. Sometimes try it twice. My red neon was the same way. I would just do that a few times. The type of clutch depends on your flywheel. If you plan on changing the tranny it wont make a difference. Just when changing the clutch u need the right one. If the clutch is used used I would put money on bad clutch or bad clutch cable.
On a side note always get a new clutch and pressure plate, don't wanna do that job as soon as you put it back together again.
I'm not too sure about Neon clutch forks but the old 2.2 turbo clutch forks used to bend or even break fairlyeasy and I used to beef them up on the welder even brand new ones, make sure your clutch fork is not bent or broke in anyway the cables are pretty strong usually.

Ok theres two things I can think of besides the cable... if its the cable josh just use my zip tie trick...
If it's not the cable... The other 2 things... they suck... but easy to check...
I know we used tons of blue lock-tight and we tightened the **** out of the drive plate to clutch bolts but one may have come loose maybe more...
And two...
And I know I used tons of blue lock-tight here too... but the acuall drive plate to crank bolts could be coming loose... however I used the Air gun on these so I really dont think it could be that... Try turning on the motor and watching the clutch threw the little plate that covers where the clutch cable comes into the trans... get someone to slowly move the car while you watch and make sure the clutch is turning straight and not wobbling around...
Other then that I dont know what to say... check all the tranmission to block bolts too... but those were tq to all hell too...
The fork is supposed to move when the cable is off...

ok i went out and tried the zip tie trick but i dont get it.. do i place the zip tie around the cable its self or what.. so im i kind got it that i place it on the black part of the cable the plastic piece that slips into the trans..
ok here it is... my Zip tie trick...
1.) remove clutch cable from clutch fork.
2.) put large size zip tie on collor of clutch cable. the part that is about a half inch long that acually slides into the transmission.
3.) Re-install clutch cable...
walla new clutch cable... this will take out any slack you have in the clutch cable...as long as its not streached here to the moon...

so i did it with no differance... so i think i stretched it to the moon and i think i broke the shift fork... becuz it vibrates so much and when i start it up in the morning it sounds like rattleing a change gar
