i just got a 2001 sohc neonmotor with 65000 miles on it for free. i wont to know if that motor would work in my 1997 neonor would i have to change alot of stuff. and if anyone has done this could u tell me what is different that i would have to change.

yes it will work, just swap your 97 intake and sensors over to the 2001 motor. You can probably use the 01 intake but I don't know for sure, but I do know the 97 sohc intake will work along with the header (exhaust manifold)

 

pretty sure there the same kinda sohc that 1st gens use, not too much to mod

 

so i cant use the harness or computer then?

 

no u cant use the computer or harness, 2nd gens use something called like bus serial data somehitng
wont go with a 1st gen
but u could use megasquirt or just the head i think, the block too, just not the harneesss

i think u can adapt a 97 harness to work, dunno ask das or spud

 

fk megasquirt! use the stock 1997 Computer and harness with sensors they are plug and play! OMG!

swap every sensor over from your 1997 onto the 2001 sohc well la you got a working sohc! its easier than **** to do, 30 minutes of swaping and yer done!.

use the 1997 intake manifold and throttlebody. How hard is that? its a piece of cake.

 

Swap crank sensor,knock sensor,cam sensor,temp sensor,oil pressure sensor and just use your 97 intake with throttlebody and injectors.

You take all those 97 sensors and put them on the 01 motor its very easy like I said before, if you lived near meId even do it for you for free!

 

will a my dohc harness work on the sohc? or do i have to get a new harness and if i ge a sohc harness will everything work in the right way?

 

I believe the only difference would be the harness length and the DOHC has a longer harness so just get some zip ties. The dohc computer works with the sohc well also.

There will be a problem regaurding your intake manifoldand cam sensor, you'll need to get a intake manifold and throttlebody cuz the dohc intake wont work and theres a difference in sensors.
