I usually use the local carwash. I use the degreaser. I put a rag on the coil pack and a plastic bag or a rag around the filter. Dont get it really hot then go shoot a bunch of cold water on it.
trew say so cover the coil pack( unbolt??)
and cover the air intake and i should b good?
and i would do it on the street but ill make sure to make sure its not hot

Dont unbolt it. Just cover it on so water doesnt get into anything on it. After power washing in wipe it down good with dry rags to pull the rest of the dirt off. Then use armorall wipes.
A rag will stop massive ammounts of water to leak into it. Just dont sit there and spray it. But the wetness from you washing around it will keep it down. Otherwise the pressure of the water will get into places you dont want it. A little water wont hurt. But the pressure is what can do it. Because then it has the actual power to get into things. I do it every few weeks and have had no issues.
I have never coverd anything while i wash my engine bay. i have never had any issues.

if you are really worried about the coil pack, then take off the wires and put a shower cap on it or duct tape plastic bags on there. i wouldnt worry about it but i would be careful about where i directed the spray.
