Default flamethrower...

my car is spitting fire. i shifted from 3rd at 6800 to 4th while passing someone and for that split second mid shift, flames shot out the exhaust. i didnt see it, but my friend following me home did. today was the first day i was hard on the car after installing my new pulley. the engine has about 1400 miles on it now - does this mean somethings wrong?

I thought flame out the muffler is a back fire from gas not burning or to much gas? My 88 honda accord shot out a flame with black smoke when I shifted at high rpms in it.
