Default Air conditioning question

(1999 neon sport DOHC)
The air conditioning in my car has not worked in over a year (bad compressor). I am considering bypassing the compressor pulley the next time I change the belts in order to increase fuel economy and power. Is this as simple as using the belt for a neon not equipped with AC or is the proceedure for this more complicated? Any feedback would be appreciated.

dunno if it will noticably increase either but yep - you can get a non a/c belt. make sure they dont give you an alternator belt by mistake. thats what they did to me.
