its not that bad of a swap, just make sure of one thing

if you live in california, and its a auto sohc, dont do it, its illegal

trust my $3000 mistake (spent way more then needed, but its quaife'd and rebuilt, with aluminum flywheel and kevlar clutch)

california wont let me register it now

you could swap back and forth if you wanted, smog is once every 2 years, the computer is the real drawback, it has to be scanned to the odometer mileage, which means you would have to have the atx computer rescanned at the dealer every year that you swapped, which is $100 a pop here.

for me wasnt really an option, the auto was dead in my car, dead dead, it was an old state forest ranger car and they abused the crap out of it

PCM's don't store mileage on the neon though.

well, california smog goes in these steps

1 - inspect the car for anything that doesnt look right
2 - hook the car up to the computer, make sure everythings right (computer has info on whether is mtx or atx, dohc or sohc, mileage, error codes, what systems are ready to be checked (MIL codes)). If you read the directions in the mopar pcm, it shows that the computer has to be programmed by a dealer to match the vin and mileage or it will not pass in cali
3 - sniffer test at 15 and 25 mph on a chassis dyno
4 - gas cap check
