My eyes poped open when I read about the broken/corroded ground wire to the fuel pump. I'm running out right now to check mine. A few days ago I was stranded by my otherwise very dependable Neon. The fuel pump has been operating intermittantly since I had it towed home.

This forum has been a greta help already and maybe saved me many hours of diagnostic time, once again. I'll post the results of what I find, after I dive in under my car.

Default fuel pump ground strap

I looked and saw what was left of the braided ground strap, about two inches still attached to the frame rail. The fuel pump is grounded via a black wire to the grounding point in the left rear quarter panel, according to the diagrams I looked at. I made a new grounding strap and put it in ... maybe it's to prevent static electricity discharge. The feul pump looked new. Maybe the previous owner had similar intermittant problems with the car not starting. I'm still trying to figure out why mine began acting up. I couldn't make it stall by tugging at the fuel pump ground connections. Apparently they are good.

I'm back to square one and scratching my head some more.
