Oil Pressure Light
I have a 99 Neon with a DOHC that the oil pressure light comes on & stays on sometimes. I have checked the oil & its fine, also just installed a new oil sending unit, did not help. Any ideas?
id pull the sending unit and replace it again. just to make sure you didnt get a bum part. are you driving the car on a regular basis? its not a good plan until you sort out the issue. trace the wires as best you can going from the harness to the sending unit. im fairly positive the sending light trips at below 3psi. so watch yourself. if its solid on and you're not knocking real bad - its probably electrical
The part was brand new i know it wasn't bad. Today cleaned the connector it had oil in it. It came on when i took it out for the first time today. Have since drove it twice & did not come on. The oil is full. I dont have a knocking i have a bad top end noise. I have replaced 16 lash adjusters, & 16 new rockers & it is still bad. It sounds like a subaru with about 300k on it. Took it to the mopar garage & they said they did not believe it was the cams or valves because the car would not run right, they also said it was a top end noise. At an idle not to bad, but when driving it is extremely bad. I have asked for help on this site & have got nothing, i have no idea what it can be. The rockers & lifters cost me $300, & am very seriously thinking of ordering a complete head from autozone if i cant figure it out. Only bad thing about that about $750 with core.
I want to do an oil pressure check on it. So my question is where do you check it? Do you check it where the sending unit goes? Also can you check it where the oil filter screws on? Also what is the pressure supposed to be. Am seriosly thinking of putting on an aftermarket oil guage, any info on any of this would be appreciated. Thanks

you can add this to add a oil pressure gauge, you can also tap this later if you plan on running an oil cooler or turbo.

I called the mopar garage today to find out what the oil pressure should be. The service foreman said he would look it up & call me back. Well he called back & said at an idle it should carry 4 psi, at 3,000rpm it should carry 25-80 psi. I know that the 25-80 psi sounds normal but only 4 psi at an idle that does not sound right to me. I asked him twice & he said thats what the dodge books says. I tried replacing the sending unit, like i said earlier, also cleaned the connector out. I didn't see any other oil on the wires. So i bought an aftermarket oil guage, should i hook it up by itself, or buy a T & hook up the old one. If so what T will i need? My cousin did the same to his car & aftermarket guage & stock & the light still comes on, & he is carrying good pressure. Any help appreciated. Thanks
