Any other codes. I have battling the same problem with my 99. It was giving me the multiple miss fire until it completely stopped running the other day. It gave me a cam sensor code. Waited 30 minutes and then it started right up. Drove it about 3 miles and then quit. I towed it home only to have a rather well oiled cam sensor. I mean it was extremely oily. I cleaned it up the best I could, got a new cam sensor seal and its been running ever sinse. Well, I still have the occational random miss fire...but, it's running.

Gotta check the obvious first. Ignition, wires, plugs and coil. Read the spark plugs and see if you have a cylinder that is running lean or maybe one is oil fouled.

And of course, check the fuel as noted by DOHC...

I have a 96 neon sohc that randomly shuts off, but will start right back up. My code was 42, fuel pump relay or auto shutdown relay (ASD)control circuit indicates an open or shorted cicuit condition. Have replaced both relays under the hood, still does it sometimes.

You check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure guage. Should be a connector on your fuel rail, just unscrew the cap & screw on the guage. Your pressure should be approximately 49psi.

Check your ASD/fuel pump relay by swapping it with the horn relay.
