Default downstream O2 sensor

I just had a fuel pump fuse problem with my mom's car. So I did a search and found out that her downstream O2 sensor could be shorting out causing the fuse to blow. Well it did and has ripped all the wires out of the plug (on the car side not the O2 side). So my ??? is so far it has not effected the MPG any and besides the CEL would it hurt to leave it like it is and just type the end of the wire's up so they don't short out again. We don't have any kind of testing were I live.

it wont hurt it but when it comes time for inspection you wont pass if the cel light is on..but if you have the money to replace it right now you might as well replace it.

I have "heard" that MPG can actually improve with the downstream O2 sensor disconnected.

But I don't think it would be a problem with it disconnected.

if he doesnt have testing, then im pretty sure he means he doesnt have inspection.

i ran my old r/t for about 90,000 miles without the downstream 02 sensor....
instead of taping off the ends, you could just unplug it and pull the wire out of there..
the plug should be located on the alternator cover

Yes we don't inspection I looked at the plug closer today and it looks as if it was ripped out long ago (covered in road grim) I did find were it was shorting out on me. I just cut all the bad spots out which made it really short wires. One day Ill go to a junk yard and get a new plug but till then I'm just gone leave it like it is.
