Lightbulb Looking for Upgrades Under $100 (Please Post Reply)

I have a 1995 Dodge Neon 2.0l SOHC and I am trying to think of ways to get some added power for under $100 for each upgrade, so far I have a few ideas. And I would like anyone with any other Ideas to post freely, links with products would be appreciated.

Number One Cold Air Intake: $58.33

NGK Spark Plug Wires & NGK Spark Plugs: $49.95 (Wires) $7.58x4 (Plugs)

1)That Nopi intake is just a warm air intake and not a true CAI. You could get the same effect by removing your intake "snorkel".

2)plugs and wires WILL NOT add power to your car. Spend the money elsewhere.

You can build your own 3.0L CAI for about $50...

I agree, I'd sell you my own hot air intake but that'd be a rip off. Its all show. The air filter sucks up hot air from above the exhaust (since hot air rises..)

I always wanted to try a header, though I dont know about the powerr gains from the shorty header from Pacesetter or Hedman. The stock manifold is pathetic and mine is cracked. They are a little more than $100 though, but I would think it would compliment the stock 2.25 exhaust pipes we were blessed with. After that, maybe a muffler, but already you are at $200 easy... At least with an exhaust mod, it would sound better..

The pacesetter header has shown the best gains for the SOHC engine.

1: 3.0L intake diy tube shipped from me-20 bucks
2: mill the head down at a machine shop-100 bucks increases compression
3: underdrive pulley- 50-100 bucks releases horsepower in your engine that is robbed by accessories
4: power steering and ac delete- free, works great with UP. could just take the belt off.
5: gutted cat- free, makes car louder, but i seen gains of 2-3 tenths
6: dohc muffler or fart can, 30-100 bucks from junk yard or new
7: weight reduction- free, sound deadening under carpet, spare tire, ect ect
8: header- ebay has knock-offs that do work, just not as good as say TTI for around 100 bucks, tti is around 200 for a shorty, you would want a long tube.
9: port n polished head- 100-300 bucks depending on what the machine shop charges, and how far you want it ported, or free if you do it yourself.
10: automatic throttle body- 20-50 bucks from a junk yard
11: 60mm throttle body- 30-75 bucks from a jeep cherokee and mod it yourself

things that will not do anything....
1: adjustable cam gear- only moves power band up or down in the rpm range in a sohc
2: plugs, coil, and wires- only good when running a high horsepowered vehicle or if in need of a tuneup
3: any "cai" off ebay or any cai that puts the filter back over the exhaust manifold as stated above
4: larger wheels (16+)
there is a ton more things that do not do anything, if you need more or are thinking of getting something, ask, because i would hate to see someone spend money on something to stay the same or go backwards.

if you do the intake you will hear it every day and so far i love that pullys dont produce alot of power unless your motor is more than stock. chances are you wont feel the diff.....i know removing your cat will lower gas mileage, gutting it would prolly do the same. and weight reduction will make the car faster, just depends on what your willing to live without.

i was still getting 23mpg in the city with a gutted cat. the rear o2 sensor is the ony problem if you have an obdII car (96+) and if that is the case, put a resistor inline with the lower o2. i was running 17.8 with the full exhaust and i changed mufflers from the stock sohc to a fart can and gutted the cat and was running 16.9-17.1's consistantly with those two "mods."
as for the udp, there is a significant gain from switching pulleys.

There is no HP nor torque gain from removing the cat or gutting it out.

then the gain must have been from the muffler swap, but whatever. i did both at the same time so who knows.
