I did the shift improver to fix my cold 1-2 shift. It not only fixed the problem, but you can feel the shifts. It not only chirps a tire, but when floored, it will shift to about 6600 rpm. I haven't done a converter yet in my neon. Boss Hog makes a 3200 stall which would make a big difference for the DOHC neon since thats about where it starts to make power. I have put a 3200 stall in my mustang and when I hit it hard, it will launch around 3000 rpm, but if I drive sanely, it starts to move around 1500-2000 rpm.

But what you have now maybe good for a few grins. The stock converter stalls at 2000 rpm! So when you step on the brakes from a stop real hard, and floor your gas, the car won't move, but the tach should stop around 2000 rpm. Then when you release the brake, your car launches at 2000 rpm. Don't do it for more than 10 secs though or you'll overheat the fluid.

Also, the automatic will hold 1 and 2 for as long as you keep the selector there. So instead of D put it in 1 then shift when you want into 2 and back to D. Your transmission will hold 1st and 2nd to the rev limit if you want it to. Hope that long post helps you out some.

tranny swap. you could increase the throttle body size to make up for the lag when you step on it

Here's the link I used for the shift kit, took forever to find. I followed all the instructions to the "T"
