it was starting sometimes but now i cant get it to start.once its started it runs fine. i had a bad battery but i replaced it. i also checked the power coming from the alternator it is also fine. the starter does seem to be working but is it possible that it is not pulling enought cranking amps? please im stumped right now

Completely random idea but check your coolant temperature sensor. If it is bad/unplugged it will crank and not start. Even if it is bad it will start if you crank it for about 15 seconds but it will get TERRIBLE gas mileage. Aside from that could be plugs/wires/coil/crank sensor or the old oil pan gasket seal cover valve sensor.

oh wow the coolant temp sensor makes sense the mileage has been horrible about about 20 miles to the gallon or less. and thats just been since i have been having this problem.ill check it out.

When it cranks, does it make any weird sounds? Does it misfire or pop at all? Crank it for awhile, then sniff the tailpipe. Does it smell like raw fuel? If it does then the fuel system is probably okay. Next check for spark. Take a spark plug and connect it to your coil and ground out the body of the plug to the body or engine. Have someone turn the car over while you check for spark. DO NOT hold the plug with your hand, use some vice grips or a C-clamp or you will shock the sh*t out of yourself.
