Default Are A-arm bushings supposed to move?

All these guys with weird problems and now I'm one of them! I've got this weird popping sound when the car goes around a corner or even when I plop in the seat(I weigh 170 lbs) coming from the front driver a-arm. I thought it was sway bar endlinks, but when I checked it out, where the a arm pivots, it can be moved up and down like an inch. There are two mounts, but they are perpendicular to each other or at right angles. The front one is horizontal and the rear one is vertical, and it is the vertical one that moves up and down.

Do I have to buy new A-arms or will bushings suffice?

I'd go with new control arms since it's freekin cold out where I am. If your feeling up for a challenge I'd put in a set of poly bushings from modernperformance...
