I own a 96 base sohc mtx. i have a mopar pcm installed, my car wont pass inspection. the inspector says its the down stream o2 sensor. my question is if I replace the o2 sensor will it pass inspection? i know the pcm wont show a check engine light and you can use the egr block off plate and it isnt supposed to show a chkengine light for that. so does a mopar pcm also bypass the o2 sensors (so that the air/fuel ratio isnt affected by them)? and if so then how can i get my car to pass inspection? if possible... thanks

 

the egr block of plate set off my CEL and just replace the downstream o2 sensor as if you need one cheaper i have a downstream o2 sensor brand new never used let me know if you need it

 

the mopar pcm still uses both o2 sensors....once the sensor is replaced, the light should go away...as long as thats the only issue....
the mopar pcm does not bypass the egr valve

 

most likely...It can also mean your Catalytic converter is going bad...but I'd try the O2 Sensor first...Cheapest and Most likely your problem.

The O2 sensor is the most vital part of the computer's decision on air/fuel ratio...it detects the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas by varying a small DC voltage that the sensor changes. 0-5 volts or something like that. It constantly varies a richer and leaner mixture back and fourth between cylinders, adjusting to try to keep the Ideal air/fuel mixture of 14:1.

 

I have also heard that you are supposed to take it to the dealership to have your vin and mileage programmed into the ECU for it to pass emissions.

The PCM does not store this data. I have heard people say this, but I have yet to see proof.

My Mopar PCM was never flashed and always passed emissions here in Houston, TX.
