Gauge installation question
I was waondering if there's somewhere else to hook up my gauges. I'm hooking up an oil pressure gauge and a voltmeter gauge. The direstions say to hook it up to the ignition box but I was wondering if there is somewhere easier to set it up. I'd like not to mess with all those wires but I would also like the gauges to work just like they would on the iginition box. When the car is started uo the gauges will go on.
im not sure of the reqiurments of gauges or anything... but the stereo starts when the car starts, you might be able to take it in the fuse box to that fuse... or if theres any empty slots in your fuse box, but again i dont know anything about them so youd have to check into that
I wired mine into the fuse box. I tapped the illunation/dimmer wire over by the hvac (i did it over there cause I couldn't find the wire over by my guage cluster and didn't want to splice anything up over there anyways) controls so my guages dim when i dim the rest of my backlights.
I installed the exact gauges in question in my '99 R/T and I wired all the power wires in the dash fuse block. I simply took the panel off the side of the dash and pulled the blade fuse of an ignition power controlled item and put the wire in the fuse slot and then put the fuse back in. They worked 100% flawless and I didn't have to cut or splice any wires. And if you do this with the positive wire for the gauge lights, put them in with the dash gauge lights fuse, then the dimmer for the factory gauges will dim the new gauges with them just like if it came from the factory with them. You will need an adapter for your oil pressures sending unit, the ones that come with the gauge/sending unit will most likely not be the right size. You will also need a sending unit socket to remove the factory oil pressure sending unit.
Here is a couple pictures of my Auto Meter Pro Comp Ultra Lite electric oil pressure gauge and volt gauge as they were in my R/T:

Yeah I got the lights working. Me and my dad, we spliced right into the light wires. Also my gauges came with an adaptor. But thanks a lot for that info, I really didn't want to go into the ignition switch and mess with all the wires underneth the dash

Also I'd like to know your opinion on something else. I'm keeping the stock sending unit in for the idiot light and was thinking about putting the new sending unit in the top of the head. What do you think?
Why not just "T" it off where the stock sender is at? I don't think the reading it would give you up at the top of the head would be that useful being tha its so far up.
